When I started planning this quilt I knew I wanted something contemporary but comfortable, striking but subtle. Organized but free. This is the end result-- and it's definitely full of the best kind of contradictions. A modern geometric pattern using a full range of kaleidoscopic colors that have been buffed to a pastel calm.
I designed this pattern and had it custom printed onto a seamless piece of organic 100% cotton double gauze; double gauze is often called "muslin" and is commonly used in baby blankets and swaddles because of its softness and breathability. The weaving together of two layers of gauze creates a material that is light and airy yet strong, and creates colors that seem to shift in the light. Some of these are almost luminescent; they remind me of vintage surf shop tee shirts, or soft ocean sea glass.
More than 40 different colors compose the quilt top. It's backed in a super soft chocolate brown cotton blend, machine bound in it, too. Quilted in straight parallel lines to compliment the simplicity of the pattern in a white cotton thread.
Quilt measures 68" x 52". Throw it over your favorite reading chair and you'll do more reading. Fold it over the end of your bed and you'll find yourself sleeping better. Spread it on the floor for your baby to happily roll around on and you'll do more laughing, picnicking, tickling, and snuggling. These are all sound guarantees.
This began as an alphabet pattern but slowly grew and changed into this fabulous mythical woodland quilt. The watercolor scenes and elements are beyond stunning in their color and detail, and I’ve juxtaposed haunting wildwood scenes with more striking gothic elements.
A crescent moon.
A lone fox atop a misty mountain.
A raven in flight.
A single blackberry.
And blended throughout, a complete alphabet.
This is a wholly original pattern, inspired by winter forests and designed with curious little eyes in mind. There’s always something new to see, another creature to find. Another tale to be told.
Handcrafted in a vibrant, spirited palette using small pieced blocks of 36 different prints from Joel Dewberry's Notting Hill collection, this quilt is machine-quilted using complimentary variegated thread in a classic crosshatch pattern and bound in a bold matching stripe from Moda.
